"...Christianity is the main, central, most common, and most thoroughly and purposefully marginalized, obscured, and publicly and privately mis-represented belief system in the final decades of the twentieth century and the opening years of the twenty first."*
I was channel surfing and "happened" to stop on TVO to hear Michael Coren on Steve Paikin's
The Agenda, a show that offers in-depth analysis/debate of current affairs.
I've heard Michael Coren a lot, and I MEAN A LOT!!! My Dad always listened to NewsTalk 1010, in the house, car, and in the garden. So Michael has a familiar voice although I have to admit, when I was younger I tuned him out. This time I listened with new ears, grounded Christian ears. I listened to him talk about some Christian beliefs (the reality), and what the world has decided they are (the myth). Michael's new book is called Heresy: Ten Lies They Spread About Christianity.
I spend a lot of (frustrating and discouraging) time hearing and seeing the way Christianity is depicted in the media, which a lot of the time is untrue. Ideals are twisted, sensationalized, and misrepresented to create separation, guilt, and fear. It's frustrating when it comes from the world but infuriating when it comes from "Christians".
A friend of mine once told me "Being a Christian is deceptively easy." I COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!. Giving your heart to God is the first step and of course the easiest of many to come. Hold strong, press on, don't be discouraged or moulded by what people have decided you are. Be the true light God has called you to be. Encouraging peace and understanding, with patience.
I digress... take some time to watch this video, hear the author challenged on his views (which may be yours), as they kindly agree to disagree. If you're intrigued read the book and let me know what you think.
Blessings!
